Interview Preparation

Interview Prep

To prepare for an interview, we have some quick ways for you to get up to speed.  In addition to these ideas, you will also want to look at the tutorials on our website for: Factiva and Business Source Premier.

OneSource – Contains company profiles, analyst and market reports, SWOTs, as well as current news. Enter the company name in the Company search box and click on the symbol to the right of the box to search. Chose your company from the list that appears next.  Look down the left side of the company profile for specific content available for your target company.

Business Source Premier – Contains news articles, market research and industry reports, and SWOTs. For a large company, enter the main words from the company name (i.e. Home Depot not Home Depot Inc.) in the first search box; in the right side box use the pull down menu to select Company Entity.  Then search.  Looking at the middle section in blue, you can click on the radio buttons for SWOTs, Industry, Market, etc. reports.  Not all of these options are available for every company.  If you have a smaller company, just enter the company name and search. For additional assistance with Business Source Premier, please watch this Walker Management Library tutorial and download the accompanying pdf.

Factiva – Contains international business news with articles in many languages. Factiva defaults to searching only the last 3 months of news so you may want to change that. Click on the arrow next to Company and enter the main part of your company’s name.  Choose the correct company off the list by clicking once on the company name so it turns to PINK INK.  Next, if you have a person, product or service name, you can enter that in the Free Text box at the top of the page.  Next, under the menu option More Options, choose to have the Free Text words in the Headline or Lead Paragraph only.  Other searches you can do are: limit by Language, Geography or by Subject using the home page menu options.  Under Subject, excellent high level searches to use are under Content Types such as Page One Story, Interview, etc. For additional assistance with Factiva, please watch this Walker Management Library tutorial and download the accompanying pdf.

First Research – has high level industry reviews, Call Prep Sheets which contain “conversation starters” about industry challenges and opportunities as well as suggestions for executive talking points, and Executive Insights.

Please note that the Walker Management Library Career section has interview prep books.
